Aristotle

Some have identified Plato (428/427–348/347 bce), whose ideal of a stable republic still yields insights and metaphors, as the first political scientist, though most consider Aristotle (384–322 bce), who introduced empirical observation into the study of politics, to be the discipline's true founder.

Studying Politics should help you to penetrate a little deeper beneath the outward appearance of things.

Studying Politics provides the kind of information and the broad skills especially important for citizens in a democracy who are supposed to show an interest in what their government does, and to vote accordingly.

The study of politics and governance addresses important questions about the nature of power, authority and governance: who gets what, when and how. Yet politics is more than this and concerns notions of freedom and agency in situations of social choice.

At undergraduate level, politics is frequently taught through a mixture of lectures in large groups, and seminars, where smaller groups discuss ideas and material studied. Seminars tend to allow and encourage more debate and interaction, and students are typically asked to read texts in advance to increase engagement.

Types of Political Systems – Introduction to Sociology

What are the 5 views of political power?

Five bases

Legitimate power.
Referent power.
Expert power.
Reward power.
Coercive power.
Past research.
Bargaining games.

There are three types of political systems that sociologists consider:

▷Authoritarianism
▷Monarchy
▷Democracy

The major types of political systems are democracies, monarchies, oligarchies, and authoritarian and totalitarian regimes. Authoritarian and totalitarian regimes are more unstable politically because their leaders do not enjoy legitimate authority and instead rule through fear.

Politics And Governance

Governments provide the parameters for everyday behavior for citizens, protect them from outside interference, and often provide for their well-being and happiness. In the last few centuries, some economists and thinkers have advocated government control over some aspects of the economy.

Government relations is defined as the process of influencing public policy at all levels of governance: local, regional, national, and even global. Government relations aims to persuade government officials to change or maintain policy to more effectively fit the needs of a particular group.

Governments are necessary to maintain law and order. Laws are essential for society to function. The government provides safety and security for its people. Government is responsible for providing infrastructure like build and maintain roads, run hospitals and schools.

In general, there are four main purposes of government: to establish laws, maintain order and provide security, protect citizens from external threats, and promote the general welfare by providing public services.

How are culture society and politics related?

Culture Influences the activities of the society. While politics is the reason for the formation of the culture and also can transform culture. Culture and politics both influence each other. Politics plays the important role in the development of the culture.

Defining Filipino Political Culture

Politics involves the production, allocation and use of decision-making powers among large groups of individuals. In stable and strong states, political activities usually refer to the powers of the state to govern.

Political governance is the process of decision-making to formulate policy. Administrative governance is the system of policy implementation. Encompassing all three, good governance defines the processes and structures that guide political and socio-economic relationships.

What do political parties do?

A political party is made up of individuals who organize to win elections, operate government, and influence public policy.

In 1946, the Joint Committee on the Organization of Congress proposed that each house of Congress create party policy committees to develop a “unity of command” in Congress.

The Rice Terraces of the Philippine Cordilleras and Banaue Rice Terraces are the main tourist attractions in the province. These terraces are believed to have been hand-carved into the mountains 2,000 years ago to plant rice.

In 1995, the Rice Terraces of the Philippine Cordilleras were declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In 2008 and 2015, the Hudhud chants of the Ifugao and the Punnuk (Tugging rituals and games) were inscribed in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Lists.

Batad Rice Terraces

Still in use today, the Ifugao Rice Terraces were carved into the hillsides of Ifugao Province by hand some 2,000 years ago, and are fed by an elaborate irrigation system that captures water from the forests above. While many people explore this famed landscape from the town of Banaue, the Banaue Rice Terraces cluster here isn’t technically part of the Rice Terraces of the Philippine Cordilleras UNESCO World Heritage site. These terraces are, however, designated a National Cultural Treasure by the Philippine government and are undeniably spectacular. But probably the most impressive of all the terraces are at Batad, a tiny, remote village in the municipality of Banaue that is only accessible by foot. Thanks to their pristine condition, these terraces—along with four other clusters—are included in the UNESCO inscription. The reward for your hike up is a panorama of a kind of enormous amphitheater where each level is actually a rice paddy and where the village of Batad takes the place of the central stage at its base. Maximize your experience by staying in one of the indigenous huts and wake up to a view of the terraces before you even get out of your cot.

Rice terraces to reopen to tourists in December if Banaue hits herd immunity

MOST PHOTOGRAPHED: Most of the rice terraces postcards taken as far back as the 1960s are those from the village of Batad in Banaue, Ifugao, such as this photo taken in 2013. Some of the terraces’ reinforcing mud walls have given way over the centuries but residents found time to make repairs during the pandemic. (Photo by EV ESPIRITU / Inquirer Northern Luzon)

BAGUIO CITY, Benguet, Philippines — The Banaue rice terraces of Ifugao may reopen gradually to leisure travel in the middle of December as the government ramps up vaccinations to finally bring this small town’s economy back on track, Mayor John Wesley Dulawan said on Saturday.

Banaue is predominantly a tourist town where 98 percent of businesses rely on visitors, Dulawan said.

Many residents have converted idle terraces into vegetable gardens in order to cope with two years of the pandemic. Other neighborhoods repaired damaged terraces during the quarantines.

The Banaue government has yet to quantify the losses borne by small businesses, like accommodation facilities and crafts makers, in two years of quarantines, said Dulawan, a physician, on the sidelines of a Cordillera weaving exhibit held at the Department of Tourism Cordillera office in Baguio.

But a soft opening will be contingent upon Banaue town achieving herd immunity before Dec. 10, when the municipal government is scheduled to assess its health and vaccination status, Dulawan said.

To date, over 40 percent of Banaue’s residents have received one dose while over 30 percent have been fully vaccinated.

Ideal numbers

“The preference is for 70 percent [of Banaue’s population of 20,652 as of the 2020 census] to be fully vaccinated,” before the municipality allows up to 200 guests each week to again tour the most photographed terraces in Ifugao, the mayor said.

However, the government may consider a “pilot reopening” even if 70 percent represents people who have received at least one jab. “Ideally one injection gives you protection of about 67 percent,” Dulawan said.

The Bangaan and Batad terraces of Banaue form part of the collective Ifugao rice terraces that have been declared a world heritage site. The terraces, which were carved out of the mountains centuries ago, are renowned for their indigenous yet sophisticated irrigation and water recycling systems.

In 2019, Ifugao drew most of the Cordillera’s foreign tourists who trekked to Banaue, the terraces in the municipalities of Mayoyao and Hungduan, and Nagacadan rice terraces in Kiangan town.

Highest point of Philippine Highway System now in Tinoc, Ifugao

New Highest Point confirmed by DPWH at 2,428.66 meters above sea level

by Jose Altoveros

March 20, 2019 08:17

For decades, most have known that the highest point of the Philippine Highway System is located along the Haselma Highway, specifically in Cattubo, Atok in the province of Benguet, with an elevation of 2,255 meters above sea level. In fact, there is even a marker on the road that says you are at the highest point in the Philippine Highway System. The said marker has recently become popular among drivers and tourists who often stop to take photos of/with it.

However, it seems the famous landmark in Atok, Benguet along Halsema Highway is no longer the highest point in the Philippine Highway System after all. The Department of Tourism (DOT) recently announced that the newly identified highest elevation of the Philippine Highway System is now located in the Municipality of Tinoc, Ifugao along the Kiangan-Tinoc-Buguias Road. This was verified by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) after conducting field assessments along the said road last January 2019.

Tinoc, Ifugao is new highest point of Philippine Highway System image.

The newly identified highest point in Tinoc, Ifugao has an elevation of 2,428.66 meters (7,968.07 feet) above sea level. It is 173.14 meters (568.07 feet) higher than the previously declared highest point in Atok, Benguet.

For now, there is no mention of whether a new sign has been put up at the new highest point. In fact, it was not specifically mentioned where along the Kiangan-Tinoc-Buguias Road it is. No doubt, however, that the new highest point will draw more tourists to the area sooner, just as it had in Atok. That said, should you want to be one of the first to get there, better plan your trip now before the road gets congested.
